Tim Adam Bag Give Away
I receive a lot of questions about bags and backpacks. I usually send people in the direction Tim Adam Bags, and with good reason too. I’ve had my Tim Adam backpack for about two years now, and still use it basically 7 days a week. The roll top design allows for a lot of space, but keeps the bag from looking odd during those times when there’s not much in it. The quality and durability of the materials and construction allow the bag to be enjoyed for years. Each bag is hand made by Tim in Portland.
Tim is relaunching his website on May 1st and to help celebrate we’re teaming up to give away a new backpack. To enter all you have to is reblog this post, likes will not enter you in the drawing. You must also be following Tim Adam and NOVH on tumblr. Once the winner is selected and contacted they will be able to pick out a bag of their choice.
Contest will close Friday May 4th at 11:59 PM. Winner will be selected at random and posted here.

Los Angeles artist David Choe was one of the many who shared the viral video of that kid getting his ass kicked in a back alley, noting “Some things I like about this guy, his hair , his red pants , how he never takes off his backpack , and how he won’t stay down with 6 guys kicking his head in.”In this wall mural, he pays homage to the 17-year-old victim with the red backpack: “My tribute to all the f.o.b.ly dressed oriental kids who never take off their heavy backpacks even when they’re getting their faces kicked in.” Perhaps now the most famous red backpack in America.

Living in the Attic

I met a girl in Korea who had at the tender age of 14 been shipped off to, of all places, Canton, Mississippi. In the very depths of the south on a mission to learn English, she was the only Asian person for miles and shared a windowless attic with a family of huge cockroaches. People tugged on her hair to make sure it wasn’t a weave, and she subsisted almost entirely on fried chicken. Her host sister would play with the cockroaches and ask her why she was scared of them- they don’t bite, after all. Perhaps my imagination is getting away with me, as I picture a Harry Potter in the closet-esque existence, but I don’t imagine the regular American kid (and certainly not my 14 year old self) would have tolerated such conditions. I asked her what she thought about being a young girl in such a weird place, and she only shrugged. “I was there to learn English,” and looked back at me as if that was explanation enough. In that moment I admired her uncompromising stoicism and sense of duty that I think is particularly prevalent in Asian cultures. I’ve grown up with a strong sense of American individualism, but I can certainly learn from my experiences in Asia.

Alcohol is like love,” he said. “The first kiss is magic, the second is intimate, the third is routine. After that you take the girl’s clothes off.

Korea Florea Fotografia

Man, I fucking loved Seoul. Over the past few years I’ve developed a real affinity for Korean culture (as drinking man’s culture as the Scottish and the Irish, to be sure) and I’ve finally gotten to visit the country that has produced some of my favorite films of all time. I liked it so much I really would rather move there instead of Beijing, but it seems really stupid to go after spending a year in Taiwan to switch to a completely different language.

Popping out of the subway station and onto the streets of Hongdae (Hongik University Neighborhood) gave me that uniquely urban sensation of being part of something much bigger than yourself. Everyone was supremely well dressed and moved with a sense of purpose. There is a great feeling of excitement and forward motion I noticed from the Korean people, which was refreshing after spending so long in an island culture back in Taiwan. Unfortunately a lot of historical stuff was destroyed in Korea’s many invasions and wars, but the people and the rest of the city more than made up for it. I’m stoked to go back soon. More after the jump.
